Congress Needs to Grow a Pair

Under the second Trump administration, Congress has gone into full hibernation mode. They have approved every single nomination that the administration has put forward, they have passed very little bills. Refuse to engage in oversight when mass offenses occur. They have even faltered to enforce the one bipartisan bill they passed, which would be the Epstein Transparency Act. So what has happened to Congress? Let’s break it down by each side of the aisle. Starting with the Democratic Caucus, an opposition party that doesn’t know how to be the opposition. Time and time again the caucus has failed to remain united when everything was on the line, especially when it comes to funding the government. The first instance was when the two leaders in Congress were not on the same page during the first Continuing resolution fight. House Minority leader Hakim Jeffreys was with most of the party on the side of not voting to fund the government. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that he was ready to not fund the government, then voted to fund the government anyway. During the second continuing resolution fight the government was shut down for some time, yet the party leaders were not able to hold ranks and several Democrats voted to open the government. In the current government funding fight over funding the Department of Homeland Security, seven House Democrats decided to join the Republicans, now the bill is heading to the Senate. They voted to fund DHS in light of the atrocities that ICE and CBP are committing in the streets of American cities. There are several Democrats that do very showy performances to get some air time such as Senator Cory Booker standing up to do a 25 hour filibuster, yet previously voting to confirm three nominations from the administration including Secretary of State, National Security Advisor, National Archivist, and Viceroy of Venezuela Marco Rubio. Democrats cannot be showy, they need to take action, Governors Newsom, Stein, Shapiro, and Pritzker and Senators Murphy, Kelly, and Slotkin, and Representative Khanna take action have all taken action against this administration whether that benign dealing with federal deployments or taking action through legislative powers.

On the Republican side of the aisle, it is disgusting. America is a land that is built on democracy and no kings. Most of the Republicans in office have forgotten this as they dare not question President Trump. It is as if they have lost their ability to think freely, or the case is that they know what they are doing is wrong. For example Senator Cassidy voted to confirm Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. knowing the dangers that he would bring to health in America. The countless Senators that voted to confirm Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth even though he was severely unqualified. Voting to confirm Education Secretary Linda McMan, who does not have any kind of background in education. The Republicans ignore their oversight duties. Military action outside of the Authorized Use of Military Force (AUMF) should be investigated. The boat strikes near Venezuela are not covered under the AUMF, the military action to capture Maduro was not covered. There was a double missile strike that was meant to kill survivors of a ship wreck, this has not been investigated. The Department of Homeland Security has overstepped the scope of their duties and continues to violate the Constitution. Why have the Republicans not held hearings and used their oversight power to make DHS comply with the Constitution? There have now been two fatal shootings in 2026 where US citizens were murdered, have the Republicans acted? No! Have the Republicans investigated Secretary Hegseth sharing classified information with civilians on non secure devices? No. Why has there not been any action surrounding the mismanagement of Health and Human Services? Diseases that are normally under control are running rampant across the US, vaccines are no longer getting recommended to children and are no longer being recommended for adults either, and now the government is claiming that autism is caused by Tylenol. What are the Republicans doing about this? Nothing.

The President and his gooners are running around the White House with no safeguards for the American people. The President is out of control, he is talking about invading an ally and destroying one of the most important and powerful alliances in the world because Greenland is the way to win the game of Risk. Congress needs to wake up and act. We need them to do their jobs which should be the bare minimum and yet that is the biggest ask.
